"Can these bones live?"

 

In 1992, Santiago Calatrava (by then already a world-renowned architect) was invited to enter a contest to re-envision the unfinished construction of the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine in New York City.  His proposal was chosen, but never made.  Sadly, the cathedral stands as incomplete today as it was those many years ago.

 

 

Looking at the awe-inspiring images of what could have been (see right, below), one cannot help but wonder—can it still be made?
